Overview
What it is.
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that can develop in adolescence (idiopathic scoliosis) or appear later in life as part of degenerative changes. Mild curves are common and often asymptomatic; larger curves can cause pain, postural changes, and reduced trunk flexibility. Physical therapy will not straighten a structural curve, but it can meaningfully improve alignment, strength, and comfort.
